Pulse waves

Pulse wave analysis

Pulse wave analysis is used for early detection of high blood pressure and vascular calcification and thus improved detection of the risk of cardiovascular diseases

Detection of pulse wave velocity in the arteries using ABDM (long-term blood pressure measurement)

With ABDM measurements using a cuff, the pulse wave velocity in the arteries can be conveniently measured. These measurements allow conclusions to be drawn about arterial stiffness: the higher the pulse wave velocity, the stiffer the arteries. The stiffer the arteries, the higher the risk of cardiovascular disease

With increasing age and the accumulation of risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia and nicotine consumption, the vessels stiffen and their elasticity decreases. The increase in vascular stiffness has a major impact on cardiovascular function and therefore has important prognostic significance and therapeutic consequences. Among other things, it is responsible for the increase in blood pressure.

If you want to know for sure how your vessels are doing, you should have a pulse wave analysis performed. Because according to the motto “Man is as old as his vessels”, this topic concerns everyone. Pulse wave analysis determines a patient’s biological vascular age by non-invasively measuring arterial vascular elasticity. The analysis has been recommended by the European Hypertension Society Since 2007 in the ESH (European Society of Hypertension) and ESC (European Society of Cardiology) guidelines as a very accurate biomarker for early vascular changes.

Depending on the result of the pulse wave analysis, a further consequence results directly. For example, further examinations can then be initiated to clarify an unexpectedly poor result, or blood pressure therapy must be adjusted or started.

However, the statutory health insurance companies do not cover the costs, so that this is an individual health service.
